For the best results, when you attend class, please give it your full attention. Do your best to follow these tips to create a safe, secluded, distraction-free space and get the most out of the class.
Create a Safe, Secluded Space
Do your best to Zoom in from a room that feels safe and is secluded from other human and non-human members of your household who might distract you.
Close the door to the room and put a sign on it reading, “Do not disturb. Attending class.”
Politely let other humans in your household know the days and times you will be attending class and ask them to not disturb you while attending.
Determine if it will be more or less distracting to have non-human members of the household have access to the room or not, and do what is least distracting.
Remove Distrations
We encourage you to use Zoom on a computer or tablet, as opposed to a phone. The larger screen will allow you to see more people in attendance all at once and give you a better experience of connecting with others.
Adjust the volume to where you can hear clearly. You may want to use earbuds if there is background noise where you are.
Put your device in "do not disturb" mode to turn off any notifications during class.
Turn off your phones.
Put all papers, magazines, books, mail, and other items that may distract you out-of-sight.
Find a chair, cushion, or mat where you can sit or lie still during the 30-minute-long meditation that is a part of most classes. Have blankets and pillows ready to use to help you get comfortable – this is especially important for people who have chronic pain.
Be Sure You Can See and Hear
We encourage you to use Zoom on a computer or tablet, as opposed to a phone. The larger screen will allow you to see more people in attendance all at once, better see any visual aids or videos shared, and give you a better experience of connecting with others.
Adjust the volume to where you can hear clearly. You may want to use earbuds if there is background noise where you are.
Arrive Early
To prevent interruptions during our class, please do your best to arrive a few minutes early or on time. Of course, if you run late, we’d rather you join us than not.
