Learn how to support and participate in mindful direct actions and protests.
What does it look like to answer social and environmental injustices with mindful and loving direct action? How can we nurture an atmosphere of centered, purposeful focus, and compassion for all during rallies and protests? In these turbulent times we are called to act in the rich tradition of nonviolent protest to protect the people, animals, and ecosystems we love.
Join us for an introductory training of the skills needed to remain grounded while defending our communities. This nonsectarian training will provide mindfulness techniques, de-escalation skills, and info to help you organize powerful and effective direct actions.
This event is free and open to the public. Everyone over the age of 14 is encouraged to attend.
Please download and peruse the Mindful Direct Action Training Handouts PDF before the training. This PDF is 28 pages long. Please read it like a magazine, skimming each page and reading whatever draws your attention. It contains many short articles and other resources. We provide these handouts to you in a digital format to cut down on paper waste.
There will be a lunch break where, out of compassion for humanity, the environment, and animals, a simple vegan lunch will be provided. If this does not work for you, please feel free to bring a bag lunch. If you do this, Mayflower asks that your food contain NO PEANUTS and NO TREE NUTS, and that no disposable plastic be used in your lunches. Thank you.
Doors open at 8:00 am for signing in, getting situated, and networking with others. Training begins promptly at 8:30 am.
This nonsectarian training is being organized cooperatively by the Mayflower United Church of Christ, Minnesota Interfaith Power and Light, and the Boundless Love Project. People of all faiths and those of none are all welcome to attend.
