Continuation of the Application for the Mindfulness Fundamentals 3.0 Course

Your application is not complete until you follow the instructions on this page, read our trauma advisory, sign the audio release form, and then fill out and submit the form below.

The reading portion of this application (including the Trauma Advisory and the Audio Release Form) takes about 16-30 minutes, depending on how fast you read. Please read it now, so you know what your options are and can consider which ones make the most sense for you. If you need additional time to consider your options, we encourage you to bookmark this page so you can find it again easily, when you are ready to fill out the application.

Once you’ve read the application and made your decisions it will take about 8-20 minutes to fill out the form. Please try to finish the application within the next few days. Thank you!

PLEASE NOTE: COMPLETING THE APPLICATION DOES NOT GUARANTEE YOUR ACCEPTANCE INTO THE COURSE

The Boundless Love Project will be limiting the class size to facilitate providing personal attention to each participant. You can increase your chances of being accepted by:

  • Completing your application sooner rather than later. The application deadline is August 8, but the sooner you get it in, the better.

  • Completing the application thoroughly and honestly.

  • Inviting your friends and family to join the course with you. If any member of your group is accepted, all members of your group will be accepted.

  • Really commit to fully participating in the class. The more committed you are to the class, the more likely you will be accepted.

We also prioritize giving space to people from diverse, often under-represented, groups, including those who are low-income, BIPOC, LGBTQ+, disabled or suffering from chronic health issues, youth, or seniors.

DECIDE: HOW DO YOU WANT TO ATTEND?

To help make the course more accessible, we offer two ways to attend the course. You can attend our teaching classes live via Zoom on Tuesday evenings from 6:15-7:45 PM (Central Time) from August 15, 2023 - February 27, 2024. Or you can watch a recording of the class each week at a time that works best for you. We plan to get the recording online no later than 5 PM (Central Time) the next day (Wednesday).

Regardless of how you participate, you will have access to:

  • All course materials and content.

  • The teacher via email, phone calls, and Signal messages to ask questions, get feedback, and report your progress.

  • Gratitude groups that support your gratitude practice and foster relationships with other class participants.

  • Zoom-based Community Heart Shares where you will be able to practice important heart-based skills, receive emotional support, and deepen your relationships with course participants.

Choose to attend live via Zoom if:

  • You can attend most of the Tuesday night classes. For those you miss, you will need to watch them online and submit your short weekly progress report to the teacher.

  • You want to develop more of a relationship with your classmates.

  • It supports you to have the structure of a fixed time and place to attend class each week.

  • You want regular access to the teacher to ask questions and get feedback.

Choose to attend by watching the recorded classes if:

  • You have a scheduling conflict with Tuesday nights that prevents you from attending the Zoom meetings.

  • You are self-motivated and able to find the time each week to watch the class with undivided attention on your own, and submit your short weekly progress report to the teacher before the next class is recorded each Tuesday evening.

DECIDE: WHEN CAN YOU ATTEND THE COMMUNITY HEART SHARES?

Building relationships with others seeking to live with more love, wisdom, courage, and joy is essential to our own progress in this beautiful endeavor. As bell hooks writes in her highly-recommended book, All About Love, “To ensure human survival everywhere in the world, [humans] organize themselves into communities. Communities sustain life…. There is no better place to learn the art of loving than in community.”

To grow your mindful community we encourage you to take this class with friends and family. This is also why the course includes four Zoom-based Community Heart Shares – one before the instructional classes begin, and one every month of the course. The Community Heart Shares will not be recorded, and their purpose is to help you practice heart-based skills, build relationships, and provide you emotional support to help you feel heard, seen, valued, and appreciated.

To accommodate all participants, Community Heart Shares will be on Tuesday nights as well as at another time that works best for most class participants who can’t make it on Tuesday evenings.

Please have your calendar or planner available when you fill out the application below so you can say which dates and times for the first Community Heart Share work best for you.

DECIDE: WHAT LEVEL OF COMMITMENT MAKES SENSE FOR YOU?

The more you put into this course, the more you will gain from it, so we encourage you to participate as fully as possible. We also understand that your participation may ebb and flow depending on the curve balls life throws you.

We have categorized three possible levels of participation: sit, walk, or dance.

SIT: Sitters commit to attending all 12 instructional classes and 4 Community Heart Shares with full attention, messaging their gratitude partners, and to doing their best with the mindfulness missions (homework).

This level is a good fit for you if you are curious about the practices and are committed to learning more.

WALK: Walkers commit to attending all 12 instructional classes and 4 Community Heart Shares with full attention, and investing 12-15 minutes a day to meditate, set daily intentions, and message their gratitude partners.

This level is a good fit for you if you want to:

  • establish a daily meditation practice that will serve you for the rest of your life.

  • deepen your current meditation practice or make it more consistent.

  • experience the benefits that mindfulness practices offer, but are unable to devote more than 15 minutes a day to it right now.

DANCE: Dancers commit to showing up to all 12 instructional classes and 4 Community Heart Shares with full attention, and devoting 15-30 minutes a day to meditate, set daily intentions, message your gratitude partners, read the course handouts, and complete the course worksheets and journaling exercises.

This level is a good fit for:

• people new to meditation who experience a lot of suffering and need relief.

• longtime meditators who want to super-charge their mindfulness practices.

• all who passionately want to live with more love, wisdom, courage, and joy sooner rather than later.

The more you “dance,” the more likely you are to experience greater benefits, better integrate these practices into your daily life, and continue to reap the fruits of them for the rest of your life.

We encourage you to attend this course with the same attitude that you would attend an evening college course that you paid hundreds of dollars to attend in order to attain a degree you deeply desire. This will help you do your mindfulness missions (homework) and arrive on time for class each week -- or watch the recorded classes promptly -- and reap the many benefits that these practices have to offer you.

Given all this, decide which level you intend to take the course at - sitter, walker, or dancer? If you think that your life is too busy to participate as a dancer, please read these suggested tips and consider implementing them to help you participate as a dancer: https://www.boundlessloveproject.org/news/wellbeing

That all said, we understand that despite your best intentions, unexpected life circumstances may cause you to move between the levels as you take the course, and that’s fine. Just do your best, and we will do our best to support you.

DECIDE: WHO DO YOU KNOW THAT MIGHT ENJOY THIS COURSE?

Consider for a minute which friends or family members of yours might also enjoy taking this course? Write their names down as you come up with them, then invite them to join you in the next few days. People often find it beneficial and supportive to take the course with one or more people they know.

Not sure how to invite them? Check out these resources to help you invite your friends and family members: https://www.boundlessloveproject.org/news/invite2023

DECIDE: WHAT ARE YOUR GRATITUDE PARTNER PREFERENCES?

As part of this course, you will be assigned gratitude partners as a way to foster relationships, build community, and support your gratitude practice. Once a day, you and your gratitude partners will send a message to each other sharing three or more things you appreciate.

If you would like more information on the practice, please read this article: Gratitude Partners: How to Do This Helpful, Easy, Social Practice.

We will be assigning you to a gratitude group, so please consider if you have any preferences on the kind of group you would like to belong to.

  • All female.

  • All male.

  • All transgender or nonbinary.

  • Mixed gender groups.

  • No preference

And would you be open to be in a gratitude group that included the course instructor, Freeman?

We will take your preferences into consideration as we form the groups, and do our best to put you into one of your preferred groups.

If Attending by Zoom

If you plan to attend classes by watching the recordings, skip to the “If Attending by Watching the Recordings” header.

DECIDE: WHAT WILL BE YOUR CLASS NAME?

The weekly instructional classes will be recorded. The recordings will be posted to the internet to allow you to review the classes at your leisure and allow others who were not able to attend, to benefit from the course as well.

Out of concern for your privacy, the teacher’s screen and his visual aids are what will be recorded. Your face will not be recorded. Even if you speak, your voice will be recorded, but not your video feed.

During the class, the teacher and other participants may need to mention you by name. However, many people have good reasons for why they would not like their names said on a permanent recording that will be posted to the internet. If this is you, please create a “class name” for others to call you during class.

Good class names include:

  • animals: zebra, dormouse, firefly, etc.

  • beautiful qualities: courage, strength, fortitude, etc.

  • forms of nature: maple, canyon, cloud, etc.

  • or your own first name, if you are comfortable with that.

Decide what class name you would like to use so you can put it in the application form below.

DECIDE: WOULD YOU PREFER TO SPEAK OR TYPE DURING CLASS?

Any comments or questions you speak during class will be in the final recording, so be mindful of what you say. If you don’t want your voice on the recording, you can use the chat feature, where you type in your comments and questions. If you only want to use the chat feature to communicate, we will put a signifier in your screen name that you will be communicating with the group via chat only.

AUDIO RELEASE FORM

For all who attend the instructional classes via Zoom, please click this link, read and sign this audio release form: https://www.boundlessloveproject.org/news/2022/10/17/audio-release-form

If Attending by Watching the Recordings

If you plan to attend the instructional classes live via Zoom, skip to the next header.

DECIDE: WHEN YOU WILL WATCH CLASS?

If you plan to attend by watching the recordings, try to set aside a specific day of the week and time to watch them. Schedule it into your planner and consider that time sacred. Tell your family and friends that you will be unavailable at that time. For any weeks where you have conflicts with that time, schedule another time for when you will attend class.

Recordings will be posted by 5 PM (Central Time) on Wednesday. Look at your planner and decide which day of the week and time makes sense for you to attend class. On that day you will also send in a short progress report to your teacher.

Everyone Read

DECIDE: WHICH FLASHBACK-HALTING PROTOCOL YOU WILL USE?

Please read our Trauma Advisory (a link to it is below) and decide which of the two practices (the flashback-halting protocol, or the 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 grounding exercise) you prefer to use in the unlikely event that you start to experience a traumatic flashback while meditating.

To help you decide, notice which practice seems easier, and offers you more of a sense of comfort and control. Read the full Trauma Advisory and learn how to do the practices here: https://www.boundlessloveproject.org/advisory

DECIDE: NEED A PAUSE?

If you are not yet clear on how to answer the above questions, feel free to leave this tab open or bookmark this page, take a pause, and come back to it when those answers have become clear.

Please try to complete this application within two days to increase your chances of being accepted, and definitely no later than the deadline of August 6.
